MISSION & VISION
The Newburgh Community Land Bank's mission is to stabilize and revitalize abandoned properties in order to sustain and stimulate a more equitable and inclusive community.
We believe we have a unique role in community revitalization. Our goal is to eliminate barriers to redevelopment, and that goes beyond property renovation and sale alone. We work on making the community, its process and quirks more navigable and accessible, and aim to improve the overall physical experience of residents and visitors beyond just our property inventory. Capacity, nimbleness, and a focused but broad mission make NCLB well positioned to lead and support community development in Newburgh.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion and Solidarity Statement
In our city, country, and around the world, we join those who voice their outrage at the systemic racism, inequality and violence that pervades everyday life in our communities. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, soaring unemployment, and continued police violence have only further exposed the deep-rooted racial injustices still impacting our society today.
As a local public authority and nonprofit organization serving the City of Newburgh, we vow to work towards a more just and equal society.
Like other land banks and community development organizations, our work seeks to address the historic and ongoing marginalization and discrimination perpetuated against Black people in Newburgh and other similar cities, which has led to abandonment and displacement.
We do this by transforming vacant property into community assets and by creating affordable rental and homeownership opportunities for people of color. We seek to stimulate equitable development in the City of Newburgh overall, so that all residents can enjoy a city with the housing, services, transportation, and access to green spaces that we all need and deserve.
We pledge to continue to examine our own policies and practices for racial bias or discrimination, including our board and staff recruitment and hiring processes. We are committed to building a leadership team that reflects the diversity of the City of Newburgh.
The fight against racial injustice is one that all Americans, not just people of color, are called to take on if we are to live up to the values that our country prides itself on.
